Man who assaulted exotic dancer with hammer gets lesser charge

This story, as presented on a local news website, featured the headline "Man Gets Prison for Attack on Exotic Dancer".

Notice the difference between the original title and the title of this posting.

Yes, a man who hit a woman with a hammer approximately 30 times, in the head
and arm, did indeed get sentenced to 5.5 years in prison.

What the original headline doesn't tell you is that the man pleaded down from attempted murder to the lesser charge of "assault with intent to do great bodily harm'.

For the past ten minutes, I have been vacillating between being pleased that the perpetrator was sentenced to jail time and discontent over the fact that the local authorities felt they couldn't achieve a successful conviction of attempted murder.
